Father's Day

Skills Not Passed On

By: - Jun 03, 2015

Father's Day

Fathers are supposed to
Teach their sons
How to do stuff
Fix things
Like cars and appliances
Carpentry and basic plumbing
Handy man skills
When something went wrong
My dad called an electrician
To change a light bulb
Workers to do this and that
Paid them and said
Have a cigar
We played catch
A few times
In the back yard
Went to some boxing matches
His passion
Gillette Friday Night Fights
On TV
At most one or two
Baseball games
So basically
I don't know how to do
Anything but cook and garden
He cooked, awesome
But didn't garden
That I got from my Sicilian
And Irish heritage
Peasants on both sides
When I got old enough
He wanted to teach me
How to operate on people
Cure them from cancer
That kind of thing
Made me watch
Puked and passed out
Can't do anything useful
But write poems
Like this one
Which is OK I guess
But it would be great
To know how to
Actually fix something
