Gathering of the clan
Yet another holiday feast
Tables spread with food
Alice organizing the kitchen
Ray rallying the men
Rope suspended
Over the nave
Scaffolding to climb
Then a leap
Swinging above our heads
Safe landing
Followed by the next
All the guys took turns
Then me
Not a country boy
Up from the city
Just visiting
No king of the jungle
Test of manhood
Climbed the ladder
Grabbed the rope
Took a jump
Holding on
Dead drop
Kaplunk
Into the table
Everything crashing
Turkey flying
Gasps and screams
Flat on the floor
Invited to reunion
This summer
Back in the church
With the gang
Told Benno
Not swinging
This time
