You still have the opportunity to visit the Barrington Stage Music Lab and enjoy their fresh and new workshop production of  My Scary Girl. For a show without only modest advertising and promotion (workshop productions are not reviewed) the company's Stage 2 has been a hit. Such is the power of word of mouth, which is clearly at work.

We are thankful to Barrington Stage and their gifted photographer Kevin Sprague for allowing us to share some of the producton photos with you. They document the efforts that  are going into this project, and provide you a preview of what you will see. To hear the music, feel the energy, and fill in the blanks you have to attend one of the remaining performances between now and July 26th.

The Music Lab is run by BSC's Artistic Producer, William  Finn. As a still evolving workshop production,  a review would be premature since changes and refinements continue to be made on a daily basis. Even so, it is fair to say that each workshop performance is approached with the same intensity as a regular production, and for the audience, the end result can be just as much fun.

It is the second production of BSC's Musical Theatre Lab and continues through July 26 at Stage 2 on Linden Street. My Scary Girl features a book by Kyoung-ae Kang and Mark St. Germain, with lyrics by Kyoung-ae Kang, and music by Will Aronson with additional lyrics by William Finn.  It is based on the Korean film My Scary Girl.

The plot is unusual. Think Little Shop of Horrors meets So I Married an Axe Murderer as it might be written by a Korean Gertrude Stein. The production is a romance/comedy/horror story set in Seoul , Korea , with a peppy musical theatre score.

Directed by Andrew Volkoff, My Scary Girl features Terence Archie, Heath Calvert, Nathaniel P. Claridad, Deborah S. Craig, Greta Lee and J.P. Moraga.

My Scary Girl is designed by Brian Prather (sets), Renee Bell (costumes), Scott Pinkney (lighting) and Jillian Walker (sound). Alma Owen is production stage manager.

For tickets, call their box office at (413) 499-5446. the theatre is located at 36 Linden Street in Pittsfield and has limited free parking.
