Seldom do you get to watch a Broadway musical in a baseball stadium. However, South Florida theatergoers will get that opportunity early next year. That is because in January, Maltz Jupiter Theatre, a professional, not-for-profit, regional company in Southeast Florida, will open its 2021/22 grand reopening season with the smash hit Broadway musical, Jersey Boys, at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Jersey Boys will run from Jan. 11-30.
“We are delighted to host one of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s most sought-after musicals at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, especially one as popular and beloved as Jersey Boys,” stadium general manager Mike Bauer said. “This production is the result of a wonderful community partnership, and it’s bringing together the worlds of performing arts and sports in a way that’s never been done before. This will be an experience that fans won’t soon forget.”
Jersey Boys is a 2005 jukebox musical. The show is presented in a documentary-style format. Specifically, the multi award-wining show dramatizes the formation, success, and eventual break-up of the 1960’s rock ‘n’ roll group, The Four Seasons. The show has a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, music by Bob Gaudio, as well as lyrics by Bob Crewe.
Following Jersey Boys, Maltz will turn to Paul Rudnick’s supernatural comedy, I Hate Hamlet. Like Jersey Boys, the production will not take place inside Maltz’s performance space. Instead, the company will perform I Hate Hamlet in The Benjamin School’s 800-seat theater in Palm Beach Gardens from Feb. 8-20.
In I Hate Hamlet, an actor, Andrew Rally, struggles with tackling the dream role of the Danish prince. The ghost of legendary actor John Barrymore, who played Hamlet, also figures into the mix.
“We are very excited to partner with Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium and The Benjamin School,” said Andrew Kato, Maltz’s producing artistic director and chief executive. He added: “(We) can’t wait to show everyone what’s possible in these two very unique venues – including a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the Florida premiere of Jersey Boys alfresco in South Florida with our gorgeous January weather.”
Meanwhile, the season’s last two shows will take place inside the theater’s playing space, following a $36 million expansion. Also on the brand-new stage, a lineup of Limited Engagements will take place.

Subscriptions begin at $242. Subscribers save up to 13 percent on single ticket prices. In addition, subscribers receive one fee-free ticket exchange per ticket per show. Also, they receive advance notice and the ability to buy tickets to Limited Engagements and other special events. Groups of 20 or more receive an additional discount.

Highlights of the theater’s expansion include a new larger stage. It will allow the 659-seat LORT B+ theatre to qualify for a pre-Broadway or national tour development production, three floors of state-of-the-art production facilities with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, an innovative dining experience, expanded Conservatory and lobby, a redesigned entrance, and a second theater space.
