To Donald Judd’s studio
Fastidious craftsman
Galvanized metal cubes
Elements for his sculpture
Did not pass inspection
Gave them to his friend
Drove to Canal Street
Recycling center
Used paper compactor
Put the boxes in
One at a time
Chamberlain crushed them
Light hand on the switch
Shifted around
Studied from every angle
Getting it just right
Loaded them in the van
Took some skill
Awkward shapes
No longer pristine
Back in John’s loft
Those rejected Judds
Morphed into
Vintage Chamberlains
