Balmy Autumn Day

Scars on the Water

scars on the water
resemble gusting winds
splashes reveal bait fish
something's chasing them

sunlight catches wide green
and yellow heart shapes
floating parallel
to the ground
on wispy stems

Tanya said she's been cleaning
the cellar has a carpet
and a lamp plus three white bags
for The Salvation Army
Ron painted the peak
of the house borrowed a ladder
also removed a big antenna
A lady photographed their sun
flowers and a dozen bluejays
upside down clung to them
this morning screaming
for the seeds

Charlie said having the new baby
is crazy Crystal is never again
going through a day and a half
of labor with a Caesarian
they tried to cover
but Charlie peeked
saw all her intestines
pop out with the baby
Charlie liked being a single child
had plenty of friends
and when he went home
he didn't have to share
can't wait for the kid
to be old enough to play

Dave had bare feet
had been out on a former
windsurfer so glad he went
used to play hockey
with my son
