Rory Beerits: (a)part of nature,
At Boston Sculptors
By: BS - Oct 13, 2026
Boston Sculptors presents Rory Beerits: (a)part of nature, the artist’s debut exhibition at the Gallery, featuring scrap metal objects transformed into a collection of animal icons, on view November 5 - December 6, 2026.
Repurposing discarded metal materials, Beerits crafts creatures straddling the line between the familiar and the mythic. In his realm, scythes become wings, colanders become scales, wrenches become pincers, and oil drums become feathers. Employing traditional metalworking and found-object assembly, he explores the spiritual power of the natural world through the materials of our human-dominated era.
Beerits begins each piece with a ritual of attention. After assiduously studying animal anatomy, he hunts for objects suited to the form and function of the fanciful creature conjured in his mind’s eye. Sourcing materials from junkyards, street corners, and fellow up-cyclers, the artist teases something remarkable from the quotidian. The resulting sculptures are neither purely recognizable, nor wholly otherworldly. They suggest possibilities beyond our inherited ideas of history and memory, prompting viewers to consider their own capacity for transformation. The work blends the everyday, the sublime, and the transcendent, offering a sacred space where instinct meets intuition.
Rory Beerits began creating sculpture, jewelry, and custom metalwork in his childhood. After a bi-coastal upbringing in Los Angeles and rural Maine, he furthered his practice at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, studying under Joyce McDaniels, David Austin, and others. He lives and works in Boston, MA.
