    New Conversations (live music world premiere) choreography, Roland K. Brown with music by Arturo O’Farrill & Resist was developed during a residency of the Roland K. Brown/Evidence company at Jacob's Pillow. It was founded in 1985 and this was their first Pillow peformance in more than a decade.

This time the tap company featured an all star, world premiere of the playful All Good Things Come to an End . The second half of the program featured a recent piece Myelination (2017). It was yet again a glorious evening of tap dancing.

    Bard's Summerscape, ever brave, captures extraordinary moments in poet T.S. Eliot's masterwork, Four Quartets. The words the poet so clearly relishes in his own reading now dance before our eyes like searing moments at the still point. Choreographer Pam Tanowitz, composer Kaija Saariaho and painter Brice Marden join forces at the Fisher Center in Annandale.

    With a combination of theatre of nihilism, taunts and insults the audience at Jacob's Pillow endured a riveting performance by Israel's Batsheva — The Young Ensemble. There was a single, hour long piece “Naharin’s Virus” (2001). It was choreographed by soon to retire artistic director Ohad Naharin. Like an ersatz Stockholm Syndrome experience the audience perhaps too politely thanked their tormentors for the assault on their sense.

    After 30 years with Balanchine's New York City Ballet, and a repertoire of some 50 works, Wendy Whelan has extended her career as a solo artist in collaboration with several choreograher partners. She premiered this direction at Jacob's Pillow in 2013. She has now returned with Some of a Thousand Words partnering with Brian Brooks.

She will continue through the end of the summer festival then leave to take a position at The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in New York City. We will miss her upbeat invitation "Let's Dance!"

So it was for balletomane Richard Curtis, who couldn't resist a charming tale about an audience member who finally makes it to a dressing room after weeks of watching performances and is able to fully embrace the lead dancer. Rollicking good fun and true to the spirit of dance.

Adès is a provocative yet pleasing composer whose seeming idiosyncracies suit choreography. The Sadler's Wells ballet company, clearly rooted in classical techniques, springs out organically to suggest additional layers of meaning.

    Indigenous to Argentina is the traditional folk form of Malambo which is described as the machismo dance of the gauchos. With striking resemble to Flamenco, Irish step dancing, and African drumming this artform first evolved in the 17th century. The irony is that this ancient dance is new to American audiences.

    Harbor Me was choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui to the music of Extension, Park Woojae Geomugo. This music sounded agonizing like a Yiddish kvetch. The stage was mostly dark with slight illumination from lights filtered through smoke.
