    After a long illness, on March 10, the widely respected publisher and editor of Berkshire on Stage and Screen, Lawrence “Larry” Murray, passed away. He organized the Berkshire Theatre Critics Association. Last November he rallied to attend the First Annual Bertkshire Theatre Awards. He presented the top award, named for him, to Jullian Boyd of Barrington Stage for community service through theatre.

    Alan Fink met his artist wife, Barbara Swan, in Paris where he lived for three years on just $700. They married in 1952 and relocated to Boston. There he went to work for the next 16 years at Boris Mirski Gallery. In 1967 he founded Alpha Gallery now run by their daughter Joanna. Their son Aaron is an expressionist painter.

During a recent week in Gloucester we met for an extensive studio visit and discussion of the upcoming June exhibition "Gabrielle Barzaghi: Perfect World" at Trident Gallery. Several drawings created in enraged response to outrageous statements by Donald Trump were included in The Body Politic a group exhibition and performance series at the gallrery.

Charles Giuliano, and poet Geoffrey Movius.The new book is built around an extensive interview with the author's mother, Dr. Josphine R. Flynn, that was conducted in 1986 during a commute from Palm Beach to her summer home in Annisquam. In this excerpt from the book they discuss the Nugents of Rockport and summers she spent with her grandmother on Beaver Dam Farm in Rockport. The book is available through Amazon.

    A man for all seasons, Jerry Martin, the Berkshire artist/ illustrator has passed. With quirky Mr. Natural looks and mannerisms he was a pithy and complex character and friend. He was a lively presence in the Alice’s Restaurant gang that hung out at the church in Stockbridge and communal holiday gatherings. It will be launched with a reading on Wednesday, August 23, at Gloucester Writers Center, 126 East Main Street, Gloucester, 01930. The event, paired with Annisquam poet, Geoffrey Movius, is free and will start at 7:30 PM. Mom graduated from Middlesex College of Medicine and Surgery during the Great Depression. After WWII its founder, Dr. John Hall Smith, sold the Waltham property which was launched as Brandeis University. I graduated from Brandeis in the class of 1963.

    In May the world's foremost architect, Frank Gehry, signed on to design The Extreme Model Railroad and Contemporary Architecture Museum in North Adams. It is one of 11 projects being developed by visionary museum director Thomas Krens. There is a daunting sticker price of some $300 miliion for construction anticipated to start as early as June, 2018.

    Soave Bolla once was an inexpensive wine with little depth or complexity. It was an accepted wine and used often for parties and entertaining. Times have changed, although Soave Bolla has remained the same. Winemakers have been lured to the volcanic soil that is in the Soave region and brought Soave and other varieties, like Durello, to new heights.
