Gil Riley’s imagery is based on a psychomagically constructed myth: Liontamer’s Paradise. Her book of the same name was published in 2016 by American Typewriter Press. This show will include pieces painted and printed on wood and fabric, monoprint and limited edition books, and small wooden sculptures.

Gil received a BFA from S.U.N.Y Purchase in 2010 and a MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012. She is a proud union member of Local 829, working extensively as a scenic artist for film and television in New York City. Her work has most recently been shown with North Brooklyn Mutual Aid’s Little Gallery, Uniforms for The End of Time, and Chelsea Manna Gallery.

Artist’s Statement

Still Freely Envisioning An Ideal Future

A show of prints, flags, books and sculptural offerings to the idea that our world could be a better place. Living in the hegemon is hard. Tweemocore offers us an escape from nihilism or a jaded cynicism. Coping through capitalism with small routine acts of enjoyment Does make a life worth living. We Can protect our own paradise within. Each object presented endeavors to maintain the ability to imagine alternatives to the circumstances endured. Tweemocore acknowledges the sad state of affairs and with a playful, intelligent innocence reconstructs what exists. Still Freely Envisioning An Ideal Future proposes there can be an antidote to annihilation. Act as if you are already free.
