On June 15,
Chesterwood will open its 48
th annual outdoor
Contemporary Sculpture at Chesterwood exhibition on the grounds of the summer home of American Renaissance sculptor
Daniel Chester French (1850–1931). This year’s exhibition,
In the Open: New England Sculptors Reclaim the Land, features works by twenty-two artists from across New England and New York, amplifying some of the region’s most compelling voices in contemporary sculpture. The exhibit runs through October 31.
Inspired by French’s legacy, the annual outdoor sculpture exhibition invites visitors to experience art beyond the walls of a museum, where changing light, weather, and seasons become active participants in the viewing experience. Spanning abstract and figurative traditions and embracing a wide range of materials and artistic approaches, the works featured in
In the Open: New England Sculptors Reclaim the Land are thoughtfully integrated throughout Chesterwood’s historic 122-acre landscape.
Artists exhibiting this summer include Michael Alfano, Fred X Brownstein, Joe Chirchirillo, Josie Campbell Dellenbaugh, Sibley Fletcher, DeWitt Godfrey, Liz Harold Grinspoon, Jill Jacobs, Elizabeth Knowles, Ilana Krepchin, Jill Law, Bette Ann Libby, Philip Marshall, Ronn T. Mattia, Ed McAloon, Silvina Mizrahi, Martina Angela Muller, Morris Norvin, Chris Plaisted, R. Douglass Rice, Stacy Latt Savage, and David Skora.
Chesterwood’s 2026 season runs from May 15 through October 31. Other current exhibitions include
The Minute Man: Examining Patriotism, Victory, and Loss in the Residence Galleries and Grigori Fateyev’s
Art Studios: How Artistic Processes Inform Architectural Design in the Woodshed Gallery. The season also includes Chesterwood's performing arts series, Arts
Alive!, with programs in music, dance, theater, poetry, and the literary arts running June 11 through September 6, along with classes and special events for children and adults. For a complete schedule of exhibitions, programs and events, visit Chesterwood.org.
