Night Watch

Vigil at First Light

By: - Aug 10, 2017

Night Watch

Huddled round hearth
Circle of elders
Pulling close thick
Bear skin robes
His body strafed
Those massive claws
Fangs dug deep
Battered flesh
Furrowed map of
So many wounds
He recalled the day
When he died
Eons ago during
Winter in the woods
Cold and damp
Shivers of memory
Gazing down now
Sliver of light
Beam of energy
Mobius strip
Warped time and space
Where yesterday
Morphs as tomorrow
Speck of eternity
A life reflected
Ever more difficult
Far more furrowed
With each incarnation
Braced against cold
Waning moon
Last of a clan
Deep in mind’s eye
Gazing inward
Toward yet unborn
Wheel ever turning
The elder collapsed
Consumed by flames
First light when wolves howl
