Paramount Centennial Closing at Harvard Film Archives

By: Nelida Nassar - 08/27/2012

The Picks of the Week:
The Boston Waterfront Festival
and
The Harvard Film Archives All-Night Film Extravaganza

The Boston Waterfront Festival
The City of Boston and the French Consulate teams up for the firth time to present an open-air screening of a Classic French Film: The Wages of Fear (Le Salaire de la Peur). The screening will be accompanied at 6.00 p.m. by Annie Royer French cabaret singer live performance followed by the film projection at 7.30 p.m.

The Wages of Fear is one of the greatest thrillers by France’s legendary master of suspense, Henri-Georges Clouzot.  Starring Yves Montand and Charles Vanel, it is the story of four desperate men who sign up for a suicide mission to drive trucks loaded with nitroglycerin over a treacherous mountain route.  As they ferry their explosive cargo to a faraway oil field, each bump and jolt tests their courage, their friendship and their nerves.

Winner of Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1953, the 147 minutes film is in black & white with English subtitles.
